Greenhouse Blog

The Time Has Come!!!

January 21, 2013
So the time has finally come for me to break down and join the tweeting community.  I joined MooseBay Greenhouses to Twitter.  I am hoping to be able to tweet better than I am at blogging.  With time being not on my side I am hoping to tweet you updates daily.  I still want to blog like last year to keep you all informed as to the Greenhouse happenings but a daily informational update is helpful too.  So between tweeting, blogging, facebooking, texting, emailing, and phoning I am hoping to get some work done too.
The seeds for the season should be in the post office this weekend.  I am going to go pick them up tomorrow and sort through them like Christmas morning.  I get so excited to see all the packages and organize them into planting groups.  I just can't believe it is the season already.  I have some work to do before planting begins but one day at a time.  For any of you that follow on facebook or twitter you have seen my tag reorganization and the pockets I made for our greenhouse tools.  I still have to pack away the Christmas arrangement stuff in the greenhouse and thaw some peat out for the season.  Not to mention the setting up of the greenhouses.  The growing shed is ready but that is it.
My orders have all come back with confirmations and I just have to order my plastics yet.  I have extra left from last year so there isn't much of a panic.  Tags should be here in a week or two and yes it's like Christmas again.  Opening all the boxes and seeing the plants that are yet to come.  EXCITING.
This year I am honored to say that I am the incoming President of the Saskatchewan Greenhouse Growers Association.  I have been on the Board of Directors for a few years and felt that it is my time to serve the position.  I am accompanied by a great Board of Directors from all over Saskatchewan and a great Managing Director from Grayson.  We have great plans to grow the Association in bringing value to our members.  We are putting in a booth at Gardenscape this year to showcase the new and exciting varieties of annuals for the season.  So if anyone is interested in checking out the display, come to Gardenscape in Saskatoon March 22-24.
Well that's all for now.
Until next time,
Judy

Oh my it's been months

November 23, 2012
Well, I don't have to tell you that it has been months since my last entry.  Mega amounts of time has passed by and many major events have happened in our lives.  The greenhouse season was exciting and busy.  I enjoyed seeing old faces and meeting the new.  May was a wet spring for us again.  We were wetter, in the fields, this year than the past year.  We managed to plant our crops by the end of June.
June was an anxious month.  We had a tight schedule to keep.  I closed the greenhouse down...

And what a May long weekend it was

May 23, 2012
What a great weekend we had.  The threat of rain went away and the sunshine was a warm welcome.  The greenhouse was very busy but it was a very welcome busy.  When the greenhouse closed Saturday night it looked like we had been robbed.  There were empty shelves, and plants everywhere.  Sunday when I came home from the flea market, my sister had moved things so it was like starting the season again.  Looking for plants because they had been moved. What a great feeling.  I hope that your expect...

Some Funnies

May 5, 2012
I had a local artist named Madison Blackstone paint new signs for the highways.  I am absolutely in love with them.  Hope you appreciate them as much as me.
Janelle, Katelyn and Jolan pretending to be busy.  This is Janelle and Katelyn being silly.
This is Mary Hudy explaining to us that she doesn't need to wash her hands. Dirts good for you.
I love this woman to pieces. She is in her 90's and comes to plant my begonias. She blesses every one of them.

Just wondering???

May 3, 2012
I am just wondering if anyone has tried the chat site.  I don't know if it is working, so if someone could email me to say whether or not they have tried.  Also, to those of you that have joined my contact list, Thank you.  I am trying to put together a newsletter that would go out every two weeks.  Hoping to find some time to get it done.   lol
Until next time,

Opening week!!!

April 30, 2012

Hurray, May 1 is opening day.  I'm very excited to get the season started.  We are cramped right now for room but once the weather smartens up I can move some plants to other areas.  This past week has kept us busy with hanging basket and wave trimmings.  Yes it is sad to see blossoms get chopped off but it is nice to see them bloom fuller next time.  I have a few pictures from this week.

This is a picture of a begonia in one of my cone baskets. I love the orange.  The bottom picture is a Dar...

It's almost here

April 26, 2012

Opening day is fast approaching and I'm excited. As I run in circles, Lorraine and the crew have been busy making sure the plants are looking great.  It is very much appreciated by me.  Well, I was trying to think about what I could write today and I remembered the exciting news.  I was able to get a supply of Flora America Tomato seeds.  I haven't planted the tomatoes myself but they are suppose to be a very nice plant with abundant fruit.  I will be trying them myself this year.

I took a fe...

Friendly Reminder

April 14, 2012

Just a friendly reminder to anyone that is interested in getting their pots planted, (either patio or hanging), you can bring your pots to the greenhouse at anytime for me to plant.  If you want new pots this year, I do have a variety of pots available.
For new customers, I do custom planting of any pot you would like planted.  I charge for the plants, soil and for the pot if you prefer new.  I then store the planted pot until you are ready to pick it up.  Also, if anyone is wanting a specif...
